What is the Kirkpatrick C2C?

The Kirkpatrick coast to coast (C2C) is named after Dumfriesshire blacksmith Kirkpatrick Macmillan. He is credited as the inventor of the pedal-driven bicycle. To further cement his name in the history books, this trail was named in his honour.

It takes in highlights such as book capital of Scotland, Wigtown, which hosts a large book festival every autumn. Cyclists also pass by the stunning Castle Douglas which not only is a feast for the eyes, but has a huge number of local suppliers of the best Scottish food. Border towns such as Melrose are also on the map. This town is the final resting place of the heart of one of Scotland’s heroes, Robert the Bruce. Finishing in the harbour village of Eyemouth, there are views to be had across the sea on the east coast.

The roads and tracks weave through Scotland’s countryside, taking in the industrial history of the area, as well as the opportunity to glimpse some of our elusive wildlife.

The route is new, and trail markers are constantly being added. If you stick to National Cycle routes 1, 7 and 73 you should be on track.
